Demonstrator

Environment

AEGOR-ProductdataBank B.V. has developed a demonstrator with her partner deBIMspecialist. The demonstrator shows how development processes of complex products can be controlled. The product data management will be done conform CMII.

The case concerns a simple example of a building under development. It is not constricted to this example. The demonstrator is generic and can be adapted to specific situations.

The organisation model used is a conventional project organisation extended with roles from a CMII – and an IPM® organisation.

The demonstrator, including its presentation material, is applicable to use at many occasions. One can think of:

• Explanation of headlines in orienting talks;
• Awareness training;
• Study and education;
• Pilots and training for implementation of PDM and or CM.

Script

The demonstrator will address:

• Organisation with roles and authority;
• “Vault” with database;
  • Physical objects or items and documents;
  • Versions en status;
  • Structures;
• Release process;
• Change process:
  • Informal change before release of document;
  • Formal change after release of document with minor impact on project;
  • Formal change after release of document with major impact on project;
• Verification process.

Within a workshop participants will be linked to a dummy person defined in the simulated organisation. With this identity and the belonging role, the participant performs all the operational acts assigned to this identified person in the simulated organisation. The participant takes all the decisions belonging to the role he or she is playing.

The operational acts cover:

• Documents:
  • Document check in;
  • Document check out and edit;
  • Document observe, judge or authorise;
• Forms:
  • Problem Report: submit; supplement; analyse; decide on proceed or reject;
  • Enterprise Change Request: submit; supplement, analyse, judge, decide on proceed or reject;
  • Enterprise Change Note (Order to implement the change): plan, supplement, judge, release;
  • Non- Conformance Report (verification of the realised physical object or item): create and register.

The assignments for the identified persons in the simulated organisation are controlled by automatic workflows linked to the different processes.
